The best of 2010's pop remixes and mashups - my top ten.

I love it when a favourite song of mine gets mashed up and remixed into something even better. I rediscover the song, remember why i liked it in the first place, and see what else can be made out of it. I'm a big fan of YouTube (well, who isn't?) and here is the countdown of my top ten mashups and remixes the website has helped me discover this year. .

10) Miley Cryus and Konflict5206 - Party In The USA Rap Remix- Yes, it's Miley and some unknown guy on Youtube, but I kinda love it. On his Youtube profile, Konflict says "I'm a rapper that can't stand most of what rap has to offer these days, it has almost completely lost all traces of originality & creativity...so look out for something different from me.", and that I totally respect - music should be constantly changing and developing. Konflict5206 is refreshing and I think that alone is going to ensure we will be hearing a lot more from him in the future.

9) Dexcell - Ellie Goulding Starry Eyed Drum & Bass Remix - I love Ellie Goulding's voice and this mix just makes starry eyed easier to dance too. Ellie Goulding sang at my gradball and I've loved her ever since. Dexcell are made up of three guys from Watford, Trak D, Slick, and Smarty B, who when their music shop closed down three years ago decided to get serious with making music. They now DJ across the country and have great support from BBC Radio One - so you know they are really going to explode soon. I've heard a quite a few of their mixes and haven't found one I don't like, even though I definately prefer the tamer side of drum&bass and dubstep!

8) Jay-Z & The Dap Kings 99 Problems (Prince Ballard Royal Edit) OK, unlike 95% of the population, I'm not the biggest Jay-Z fan (don't hold it against me!), but this mashup completely changed my mind. The Dap Kings totally change the feel of the song, it's pretty incredible.

7) Glee Cast ft Gwyneth Paltrow - Umbrella & Singin' In The Rain -

I'm definately NOT a Gleek, but Singin' In The Rain is one of my favourite musicals, and once I heard this song I've had to listen to it about 10000 times, it's so good how the songs just click together, and the dancing isn't too bad either!

6) David Guetta - Mega Mash-Up remix 2010 A mix of Lady GaGa, Shakira, Pitbull, Madonna, David Guetta feat. Akon. Love it love it love it!

5) Rude Baptism (The Hood Internet Mash) - Rihanna vs Crystal Castles - This mashup just makes me want to dance, and that simply, is why it's on my list.

4) Dj Mvp - David Guetta Remix 2010 The video I have posted below of this song is a live version done in Madrid (i think ~ the description is in spanish so I have no clue really!) I found it in May earlier this year and added it to my favourites straight away. I'm sure if I owned a club I would be stealing this for saturday nights!

3) DJ Earworm - Like, OMG Baby (Capital FM Summertime Ball Mashup) - I'm not going to lie, I am kinda in love with this guy. He is like, OMG, baby, so talented. This mashup is incredible and full of the songs that I will always associate with last summer. Summer already seems so long ago but this just makes me feel like I'm drinking outside in the sun with my housemates, getting ready to go out. Tinie Tempah, The Wanted, JLS, Pixie Lott, Ke$ha, Dizzee Rascal, Bieber and so many others makes for such a fab summer party tune.

2) Love The Way You Lie Mashup - Sam Tsui (singing) Kurt Schneider (producing). This is an amazing cover and mashup of three of the hottest songs of this year; Rhianna's 'Love The Way You Lie', Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' and 'Dynamite' by Taio Cruz. Apparently Sam and Kurt have been best buds since high school and formalised their music partnership at Yale University, I think many (especially Kurt's 522,218 YouTube subscribers) are glad they did! Like their other creations, this mashup is fantastic, it makes me forget the originals as the songs just flow together so easily. Sam's voice and expression are gorgeous, I could listen to him sing forever.

1) (drumroll please)...DJ Earworm - United State of Pop 2009 (Blame It on the Pop)

Yup, another DJ Earworm mix! This is a mashup of the Top 25 Hits of 2009 (according to Billboard), and it has turned out A-MAZING. Honestly, he is so talented. The top 25 is such a mix of R&B, pop and rock, but still he manages to fit them together perfectly. The background music is basically ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’ by Black Eyed Peas, and he has managed to somehow add lyrics to songs such as ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz, Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’, and Kings Of Leon, 'Use Somebody'. I cannot wait to hear his 2010 version!

So, there it is, my favourite mashups and remixes of 2010!

Why don't you comment and tell me which is your favourite?

Hi fayehelen, i seen your new Hub was up and i thought i would give it a try for 1 or 2 songs as i thought the music might be too young for me, but i listened to it it all and it is brilliant! A lot of music that i probably wouldn't buy but would definitely listen to. You were saying in one of your comments that you would like to write about things that interest you, and certainly in this Hub what came across was that you really liked this music. Excellent stuff fayehelen, more of the same.

If i'm not on here over the "festivities" i hope you have a great christmas and new year. Cheers. Michael.

Michael - don't be silly!; no music is ever too young/old for anybody (except for nursery ryhmes i suppose.. ) But thankyou for reading and listening to the music - i really appreciate your support and comments :) I'm glad it came across that i liked the songs, because I really do.
